The wave in front of our pondok is Cimaja, which is described as an intermediate wave, but every time we went to the beach to check it, it consistently had big clean-up sets that would have put the fear of god in me. So we made the journey to Karang Haji for our first two days of surfing.
It's a great wave that still had the sneaky big set that would come in and again put the fear of god in the kook. After two days we found that we could stay in an eccentric, but beautiful villa overlooking the beach for less money than our bemo (minibus) ride from Cimaja to the beach. Our room for the next 3 days overlooked the beach (as seen from one of the photos posted) and one can check the surf even while sitting on the toilet as Lily would add later to a fellow North American staying in Cimaja.
Tonight at 11 p.m. we're joining two Germans and a Canadian for a three day boat trip to Panaitan Island. Most of the waves are heavy, shallow reef-breaks, but there is also a wave called Pu--y Point (in reference to the weak that journey to Panatian Island) that is suppose to be good for longboards, a nice long mellow left that can peel for 300-400m.
