August 2nd, 2005. This was my first day ever in the Yakima Downtown Library, and almost half a year before my first day of work there. It's incredible to think of how much things have changed since then.
About a minute after I took this photo, Cynthia Garrick asked me if I needed any assistance.
Sure. What's there to do in this town?
She told me everything. Wine tours. Museums. Parks.
(In the next two days, I did as much as I could.)
But, while she was telling me about the town, I remembered... I've always felt like reference librarians had a mythic sense of knowledge while asking them for help. Wouldn't I like to have the answers for someone some day?
And so, my first day of work there was like a rite of passage. And the day in this picture, a day I will never forget.
